Advice and representation on classic vehicles: buying and selling, defects and restoration, valuation and accident claims.

Classic vehicles, particular questions

Classic and modern classic cars are subject to the same laws as any other vehicle, but the cases look different. They concern unique vehicles whose value depends on originality, history and condition, restorations that take years, and expert reports that say more about value than the odometer.

As a long-standing classic car expert, Lutz Petermann combines the legal and the technical perspective on the vehicle.

Buying and selling

The purchase contract determines which rights exist later on: what condition was agreed, for example accident-free, matching numbers or a particular condition grade? Has liability for defects been validly excluded? We review contracts before signature and represent buyers and sellers when it turns out after delivery that the vehicle does not match what was agreed.

Restoration, workshops and valuations

Restorations often take longer and cost more than planned. Disputes arise over estimates, the quality of the work or incomplete documentation. Valuation reports matter just as much: they can be an important basis for the agreed insured value and for settlement after a loss.

After an accident

When a classic car is damaged, a standard settlement is rarely sufficient. Replacement value, repair with original parts and loss in value cannot be determined by rule of thumb for a unique vehicle. We enforce your claims against the insurer, closely linked with our work in traffic law.
